Poker Software
Software has been developed to help you play better online poker. There are a huge number of things that a player can do to improve their chances of winning and there are programs that will aid in doing this from collusion to simple odds calculators.

All of the online poker rooms are aware of this software and all have there list of acceptable and prohibited software. The problem is what is acceptable or reasonable to one person is unreasonable and prohibited to another.

Some poker software is obviously cheating while other poker software is very close to the mark. What the online poker rooms, and you must adhere to, is a compromise between obtaining a 'fair' advantage and prohibiting an 'unfair' advantage.

We have set out below a guideline that most online poker rooms follow in deciding whether to ban or allow a software product to be used in conjunction with their poker room:

Acceptable
Programs that simply tell you odds, odds calculators, starting hand recommendations.
Programs that profile your opponents but make use of only information which you have accumulated by your own play.
Macros and Hotkey programs that don't have any bearing on game play logic. For example, you can use Auto Hotkey, Macro Express or AutoIt3 to make it such that you "bet the pot" when you press the 'P' key, but you cannot use these or other utilities to create an auto folder that folds poor starting hands, or that automates advice or actions from any other program.

Prohibited
Any program that shares hole card data with other players or programs is colluding, and is prohibited.
Any program that works off of a central database of player profiles or hands played is prohibited.
Any program that plays without human intervention (a "bot") or reduces the requirement of a human playing. For instance, an "auto-folder" is prohibited.
The practice of data mining (observing games as a non-player for extended periods to build up a large collection of hand histories for future reference) is prohibited.
Any software that offers advice on the appropriate action to take, and which is also programmable or configurable beyond a simple slider to choose a level of aggressiveness or tightness.

Online Poker Rooms and Poker Software

"We are going to look to see if any of those programs is running on a player's computer. If we find one of the prohibited programs, we will alert the player that he is running a prohibited program and tell him what the program is. We will ask that he stop running the program immediately. If he complies, fine. If not, then we will prevent the PokerStars client from running on his computer."
