Liquidity comes from new players playing on the tables, this may sound obvious but without a constant stream of new players to play with a poker room will soon run out of games to offer. Sign-Up Bonus & Bonus Match
All of the top online poker rooms offer some form of sign-up bonus. A sign-up bonus is a bonus that is paid into your poker account after a particular number of raked hands are played. It varies between sites, some allow you to play with the bonus straight away, but most release the bonus money into your account in a drip feed way depending on the number of raked hands you play.
To explain a bonus better let's use an example:
You will see Pokerstars advertising a "First Deposit Bonus - 100% up to $50".
So what does all this mean, let's break it down. What they are offering is a Match Bonus of 100% up to $50. So if your first deposit is $50 then you will be able to release a $50 bonus into your Pokerstars account when you have fulfilled their requirements.
Now reading Pokerstars promotions T&C's you will find out that to release the bonus money, or to clear the bonus, you must earn 10 base FPPs for each $1 in bonus money.
Reload
Most online poker rooms also offer some sort of reload bonus after sign-up bonus has been cleared. Again this will have requirements in order to clear the bonus money.
Frequent Player Points
FPPs are earned by playing in cash games as well as tournaments. The higher the rake the more FPPs you earn. FPPs can be used to purchase branded items, such as Caps and Mugs, as well as tournament buy in's.
