Low Poker Hand Ranking

In standard poker games, e.g. Texas Holdem, the player with the highest poker hand wins the pot. In Low poker, e.g. Razz, the player with the lowest qualifying hand wins the pot.

There is another version and that is High-Low poker, e.g. Seven Card Stud, where the pot is split between the player with the highest hand and the player with the lowest hand. With High-Low poker it is possible to win all of the pot, with a winning High and Low hand at the same time.

There are three methods of ranking low poker hands:

Ace to Five
This is the most common method and the one mostly used in High Low poker games. The lowest possible hand is 5-4-3-2-A, called a wheel. Aces are low and straights and flushes are ignored.

Ace to Six
The lowest possible hand is Ace to Six6-4-3-2-A. Aces are low and straights and flushes count as high hands.

Deuce to Seven
The lowest possible hand is 7-5-4-3-2. Aces are high and straights and flushes count as high hands. Since aces are high, A-5-4-3-2 is not a straight, but just ace-high no pair.
